A Delicious Anti-Inflammatory Drink

|
August 16, 2016
Protect your skin from sun damage. Drink an Iced Matcha Latte (recipe below).

In the season of iced tea, it’s good to know what variety reigns supreme for your health. Out of all of the varieties, green tea is a true standout.

First, it’s good for sun protection. Research has shown that the catechins, a type of antioxidant, found in green tea help protect the skin from UV rays and even help reduce redness after prolonged sun exposure. It also helps boost metabolism and has significant anti-inflammatory properties.

Green tea benefits your brain as well. Not only does it help you concentrate thanks to L-theanine, an amino acid which can increase alpha-wave activity while simultaneously relaxing you, but a 2015 study found that those who drank the green variety one to six days a week had less mental decline.

So if you’re feeling that 3 o’clock slump, reach for some iced green tea, which offers much less caffeine than a cup of coffee—and no more late-night jitters.

Ready-to-drink versions like those from Steaz and Ito En offer low- or non-sweetened organic varieties. Or make your own iced matcha latte. Matcha is a highly concentrated green tea and nutritional powerhouse; 1 cup carries the benefits of 10 cups of regular brewed green tea. And it comes in powder form from Culinary Teas or Breakaway Matcha.
