Who doesn’t love a good smoothie? Fruit and vegetables alone are fine, but you know adding protein and fat makes your drink even more satisfying. Now it’s time to up your game even more: Here are 6 smoothie boosters that can bring you clearer skin, increased energy, stress relief and more, so you can blend and sip like a wellness pro.
This trendy ingredient is getting buzz for good reason: It is loaded with health benefits, from improving skin, to helping with digestion, and even easing joint pain. It also contains protein, which means you don’t have to worry about any additional protein powders. Collagen typically doesn’t have flavor, so it won’t affect the taste of your smoothie, but it can help add a nice thickness to your drink to make it more filling.
Rushing around all the time? Need some calm in your life? We feel you. Until it’s time for your next tropical vacation, try adding some ashwagandha to your smoothie. This adaptogenic herb not only helps to improve your mood by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, but it also can help lower your blood sugar levels and fight cancer.
Mushrooms in your smoothie? Sounds crazy, but adaptogenic mushrooms like reishi, cordyceps, and chaga come in powder form that’s easy to toss into smoothies and can help with focus, clarity, and energy levels. They also can help boost your immune system, perfect for those times when there’s a cold going around the office.
One of the reasons coconut oil is so good for you is that it contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), saturated fatty acids that can help with focus and weight management, among other benefits. You can get them in higher concentrated quantities by using MCT oil. Typically made from the medium-chain triglycerides in coconut and palm oil, this healthy fat can help rev up your metabolism, boost your energy levels, and help with digestion.
Get your morning energy boost by adding some matcha powder to your smoothie. This powder, made from steamed, dried and ground green tea leaves, matcha does contain caffeine, but it won’t give you the jitters thanks to the calming amino acid L-Theanine. Not only will it kick up your energy levels and rev up your focus, but the abundant antioxidants and other health-boosting compounds in matcha can also help fight cancer, heart disease, and more.
Gut health is top of mind these days, since we know a healthy gut means stronger immunity, better digestion, boosted mood and more. One quick and easy way to love your gut: Add probiotic powder to your smoothie.
