Even if you’re someone who visits Trader Joe’s weekly, like I do, you’re bound to discover at least one new thing every time you walk through the door. Each trip feels almost like a scavenger hunt, trying to uncover recently released snacks and frozen foods.

The freezer aisle definitely tends to have some of the most exciting buys. And, good news, Trader Joe’s rolls out new freezer items. Here are three new frozen foods that I recently uncovered. Check out all three and you’ll have a few healthy meals in the bag.

1. Kale Gnocchi

Are you a fan of Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi? It was easily one of the trendiest frozen foods of 2019. Well, 2020 might be the year of Kale Gnocchi. It has just five ingredients — kale, potato starch, chickpea flour, sea salt, and olive oil — with a very subtle kale flavor. It’s an easy, healthy base for a quick dinner. Toss it with a jar of your favorite marinara or try sautéing it with a few of your favorite vegetables and drizzling the whole thing with pesto.

2. Cuban Style Citrus Garlic Bowl

If you’re looking for an extra fast meal, pick up Trader Joe’s Cuban Style Citrus Garlic Bowl. Their take on the Cuban dish arroz con pollo is filled with goodness: Turmeric rice, marinated chicken, bell peppers, onions, black beans, plantains, cilantro. Like most frozen foods, it’s a little high in sodium. But, it contains a whopping 16 grams of protein per bowl — and it’s low in saturated fat.

3. Pappa al Pomodoro

When I was living in Florence, pappa al pomodoro was one of my very favorite soups. It’s a bread-thickened tomato soup that’s hearty and comforting. So I was thrilled to see Trader Joe’s release a version of their own. Their Pappa al Pomodoro is made with tomatoes, vegetable broth, sourdough bread, garlic, olive oil, basil, sea salt, and red pepper flakes. A box conveniently comes with two single-serve packages. It’s a way to get a taste of the cozy soup in minutes, which is especially useful this time of year. To add protein and make it even more satisfying, try topping a bowl with a fried or poached egg or stirring in some chickpeas.

Have you tried any of these? What are you buying at Trader Joe’s these days?
