The just-opened North End Grill in Battery Park City is fast becoming the neighborhood’s power lunch hotspot. With Top Chef Masters season 3 winner chef Floyd Cardoz running the kitchen (his first since Tabla), the latest venture from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group is your not-so-classic American bar and grill. Black, white and sleek all over, the restaurant’s elegant dining room is enclosed by a scotch wall and open kitchen with counter seating—perfect for grill-gazing.
Speaking of the grill, Chef Cardoz uses it to play up the flavors of seasonal, eco-friendly and mostly local ingredients. The seafood-heavy menu currently features dishes like Nova Scotia halibut with pine nuts, green raisins and clams; several shellfish takes on classic egg dishes; and Stone Church duck breast and leg with wilted leeks and tangerine. There are also a few options for vegetarians, like tempting salads and the roasted mushrooms and kale “risoato.” For meatless grill marks, order the charcoal grilled shishito peppers and cippolini onions (or enjoy them as a side with grilled mains during lunch).
